Find it first: Nautica Fall 2016 – Where the City Meets the Sea
2 min read
“Where the city meets the sea.” Nautica’s poetic tagline for their latest Fall collection provides the most succinct description of their elegantly athletic new line – perfectly wearable, with covetable, understated touches of luxury.
It’s a collection created with the contemporary urban dwelling man in mind – one that is equally at ease navigating the concrete wilderness of the city as he is escaping to the roar of the waves. And while nautical references play a strong role in the collection, this is not your usual cliché of Breton stripes and indigo.
Instead, Nautica draw upon a rich architectural narrative – the drama of the urban landscape, bridges, concrete towers and hard lines, juxtaposing perfectly with the wild, open lure of the open sea.
You’ll find it in their signature sweaters – the classic fisherman’s jumper is reimagined in deeply textured cable knit, and woven in a luxurious cashmere yarn. The iconic admiral’s coat, redefined in winter-ready wool, is pristine in snowy white, while pea coats and traditional duffels provide great casual options for autumnal days.
Alongside these nautical staples though, there’s an urbane twist to the tale. A touch of athleticism gleams alongside navy and cream staple pieces – gabardine joggers and reflective stripes on storm-proof blazers are more ‘concrete runner’ than would-be sailor. And while the classic Breton stripes do come out – on a luxuriously warm turtleneck sweater – they’re clashed against bold diagonal patterns, like the long, dramatic shadow of a Brutalist building.
Smart and contemporary, this is a collection that’s both easily wearable and retains just enough of a stylish edge to make it stand out from the crowd. Our favourite picks? Invest in a flattering turtleneck sweater in smooth mercerised wool or textured cable knit as an ideal work wardrobe essential, or take your pick from the great range of outerwear – the modern minimalism of a monochrome graphic printed gilet provides the perfect foil to your staple basics.
