2 min read
Finding the perfect scent can sometimes be an extensive task. From deep, musky undertones to flirty floral notes, there are many to choose from. After all, we’re all unique, and hence our scent preferences are incredibly personal.
It’s something that makes buying a fragrance for somebody else a tricky task. But get it right and perfume is one of the most memorable presents you can give. - The right fragrance shows you’ve really put the thought in.
Our insider Dom Devetta shares his top 4 secrets for gifting sucess when choosing a fragrance for someone else.
#1 - Make it personal
“Notice every day interactions with fragrance and discuss or match these with scent families on the shelves." says Dom.
Consider also a persons daily routine. If they work in an office, choose a fragrance that isn’t too overpowering. Or if they’re into sports, an invigorating citrus smell will refresh the senses.
"Go into store armed with as much information as possible and you'll give the team a fighting chance of hitting sucess.'
#2 - Walk the Walk
It's true. Fragrances suit certain skin types. To combat this the best way to evaluate a perfume suggests Dom is to "Wander around a good quality fragrance department, like the one at David Jones. Spray some scent cards with fragrances that catch your eye. Narrow them down, keep two or three of the favourites – live with them for a while, a few hours, and you’ll find your naturally drawn to one. Trust your instincts!"
Don't forget to write the perfume name onto each blotting card before you spray it!
#3 - Keep Calm and Choose Classics
Still struggling to decide? "Choose your backup plan" says Dom.
If you are in serious doubt there are some simple fragrance families that can point you in the direction of safe bets. For women the most appealing fragrance family tends to be florals, such as Amber Rose for a distinctive hit. Or English Cherry Blossom for more subtle note. For him - choose more smoky and woodly fragrances such as Blacks Club Leather inspired by the aroma of the London private member's club, Blacks of Soho.
#4 - The art of Unwrapping
